Veterinarians

Dr. Jim Schulze Dr. Jim Schulze

Dr. Schulze received his D.V.M. degree from Texas A&M University in 1980. Upon graduation, Dr. Schulze moved to Conroe, Texas, and joined a mixed animal practice. Dr. Schulze and a partner established Equine Veterinary Associates in 1982.

Sports medicine and lameness, equine reproduction, and preventative medicine are among Dr. Schulze’s primary interests. Dr. Schulze achieved recognition as a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) with certification in Equine medicine in 1990.

Dr. Schulze is involved in many charitable, professional, and community organizations. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Equine Practitioners, and the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. He is a past member of the Willis Independent School District Board of Trustees and is a past member of the Texas Racing Commission. He and his wife, Patty, have five children. The family enjoys an “extended family” of pleasure horses, two dogs, and several cats.

 

Dr. Melissa Hubble Dr. Melissa Hubble

Dr. Hubble is a native Texan, raised in the hill country, whose interest in horses started with the 4-H club and competing in local rodeos.  She earned her Animal Science degree and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University, graduating in 2000 and joining E.V.A. in June of that year.  She and her husband, Jason, had a baby girl in December 2010, and are expecting a baby boy in February 2012.   

Dr. Hubble’s specialty is dentistry, including floating of sharp points, equilibration of the bite, extractions, and minor periodontal procedures, and she plans to continue expanding her knowledge and expertise in this area.  She also enjoys foaling and breeding season, preventative medicine, and the occasional challenging internal medicine case.   

Dr. Hubble is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, the Texas Equine Veterinary Association, and the American Association of Equine Practitioners.  She is dedicated to the long-term sucess of the equine professional and promoting the horse industry.  In addition, she welcomes young women and men who are interested in becoming equine veterinarians to shadow her, either by completing externships through their school or on a volunteer basis.

 

Dr. Rickie Christensen Dr. Rickie Christensen

Dr. Christensen is originally from a small town in south Texas.  She has had an interest in horses ever since she was young and has wanted to be a veterinarian since she was ten years old.  She graduated from veterinary school at Texas A&M University in May, 2007.  Afterwards, she pursued an internship at a private equine practice in Northern Virginia. 

Her main areas of interest include internal medicine, reproduction, lameness, emergency medicine and preventative care. 

Dr. Christensen has been with EVA since June of 2008.  She is a member of AVMA, TVMA and AAEP.  Horses have been her passion all of her life and she is enthusiastic about joining the practice here at Equine Veterinary Associates.

Barbara VanLiew Barbara VanLiew

Barbara, or "Barb" as she's sometimes called, is originally from Hopewell, NJ, and moved to Texas in 1986.  She is a third generation horsewoman, and rides dressage, hunter, and trails.  She graduated from Harcum College in 1975 with an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology and is an RVT.  Her husband of 35 years, Dick, and she have 3 children and 4 grandchildren.   


Angelina Canterbury Angelina Canterbury

Angel grew up locally in Huffman, TX.  Her love of horses started with a barrel racing club, but has since included trail riding, the Girl Scouts horse program, and even training level dressage.  She was in FFA and started the first horse judging team at her high school, and was also in 4-H.  She later earned an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology at Tomball College and maintains her RVT status with annual continuing education meetings.  When not at work, you can usually find Angel on a bicycle for charitable causes, like the MS 150. 

 

Crystal Barricklow Crystal Barricklow

Crystal grew up in Kansas, and started riding racehorses in SC and TX in the late 90's.  She also studied Equine Science at Dodge City Community College.  After riding racehorses for over 10 years, she worked for a referral veterinary pracitce near Austin and then in Hempstead before joining EVA.  She currently trains and rides barrel horses and competes all over the state, along with her fiance, Donald.  Besides horses, Crystal also has a soft spot for her Jack Russells and French Bulldogs.   

 

Erica Brooks Erica Brooks

Erica is originally from Mayfield, KY.  She grew up riding Racking and Tennessee Walking horses, but when she decided she liked going fast and wanted to run barrels, she switched to Quarter Horses.  She and her husband, Paul, moved to Virginia and then Texas when their military contract in Hawaii was up.  While there, Erica earned a BS in Criminal Justice/Criminology at Chaminade University of Honolulu.  She had worked at a small animal practice for four years before coming to EVA.  Her interests here include competitive trail riding and barrel racing, working with problem horses, and her dogs, two Boxers and a Pit Bull.    

 

Ashlea Reneau Ashlea Reneau

Ashlea was born and raised in Conroe, TX, and has been riding horses all her life.  She started out showing in Arabian Breed shows, and currently rides dressage and trails for fun.  She graduated with a Veterinary Technician degree from McLennan Community College.  Ashlea is married to her high school sweetheart, Wes, and their family includes two horses and two dogs.   

 

Leeanna Baugh Leeanna Baugh

Leeanna is from The Woodlands, TX.  She is a senior at Sam Houston State University in the College of Business, and working on becoming a veterinary assistant.  Showjumping is her favorite horse activity.
